As mentioned in today’s Weekly Update, a serious regression involving Firefox 2.0.0.8 and JAVA (JRE 1.6 update 3)on Windows Vista ONLY has been identified. Bug 400467: Java broken on Vista after Firefox 2.0.0.8 upgrade (says Java Not Found, Or Not Working). Reviewing the bug report, the bug filer had upgraded to Fx 2.0.0.8 earlier that morning and attempted to launch/play a JAVA based game at Pogo.com and was told that they could access the site with IE7. The latest and greatest update on the Firefox 2.0 branch has been released. This update fixes eight security vulnerabilities including two labeled critical, along with other 100+ stability and performance patches. Nearly 3 months after we reviewed Netscape 9.0b2, the final version of Netscape Navigator 9 has been released today. Netscape Navigator uses the same Gecko engine as Firefox 2 (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.8pre) Gecko/20071015 Firefox/2.0.0.7 Navigator/9.0) and is available for Windows, Mac OSX or Linux. Further since it is based on Firefox 2, extensions are cross-browser compatible.
