A new addition to Fx 3 which will add about 100-200 KB to Fx Code will be support (though not yet documented) for the forthcoming <VIDEO> <AUDIO> HTML 5 Tags. However, this currently not in any released (or nightly) Fx 3 builds and further: Right now and for its first iteration, support will be limited to Theora and Vorbis, a couple of open source video and audio encoding formats respectively, developed by the Xiph.org Foundation, as recommended by the specification but other formats may be supported in the future as well. I haven’t even been on WordPress a year yet. Earlier today Akismet caught the 10,000th spam comment! I knew my blog was popular among the Fx & TBird community but it also seems to be popular place for spammers to try to advertise anything from Rx Drugs, Male Enhancement Products, Fake Watches, Furniture, Cars and just about anything else you could think of. However, this would be a good time to point out that I have no longer have the time to go through the hundreds of comments that Akismet catches daily and remove any legitimate comments that may have…
I have added a tag for Ubuntu. Now I need to go through my old posts (I think there is only one) which I have mentioned Ubuntu and re-tag them.
It appears WordPress has fixed the issue with the drop-downs I am using for the Archives and Tags selection. The archives should now default to ‘Select Month’ while the Tags one should default to ‘Select Category’. If they are still displaying something else for you do a force reload (CTRL+F5) and that should correct this.
Tuesday, May 1st will mark the One Year Anniversary of the beginning of the Firefox Extension Guru’s Blog! I can not believe it has already been a year! Yep, started out over at Blogger but would later move over to WordPress (see New Blog Home). Here’s the post that started it all: A Blog is Born! In all honesty I was not sure if the blog would be a success, but judging by these stats (from September 6th to present) I would say it has: Posts^: 391 Comments: 631 Views: 170,000+ Most Views in One Day: 3,050 Subscribers*: 79 Spam…
The folks over at WordPress have once again added a nice feature. This time they have added Clouds and Drop Downs for the categories. While I am not much one for tag clouds (the bigger the tag the more popular it is) I do like the new drop down option. One of the reason I had “cleaned-up” the tag list a couple months ago was because of how much space it took up on the sidebar. But now they have been place in to a nice little drop down menu. Even better the archives are now in a drop down…
Over the past months I have received several complaints about the link to Go Firefox! in the Blogroll. These complaints stem from Prospero’s (provider for Delphi Forums) advertisement policy. Simply put whenever an unregistered/non-paying (Delphi Forums) user visits a link to a forum such as Go Firefox! they are immediately presented with a full screen ad before they are allowed to proceed into the forum. I have also heard reports (unconfirmed) these ads leave adware/spyware and/or tracking cookies on visitors computers. Also Prospero makes it (I am sure intentionally) unclear that there is an option to “Skip This Advertisement“, usually…
While I may not be posting much about Firefox 4 for a few more months (after Fx 3 is released), I have gone ahead and added a Firefox 4 tag. It is likely to be released around the same time IE8 comes out (sort like the IE7 vs Fx 2 this past fall). Here are some details about Fx 4 from my Firefox Year in Review post (which is located in the Popular Posts section): Firefox 4, is going to based on the Gecko 2 platform which is going to be quite different than the past Geckos. It will also…
I was looking at my blog stats last night and was noticing that they were a bit high (not that I am complaining) for a Sunday evening. Then I noticed my top referrer was wordpress.com. Well that is odd and at the same time interesting. So I clicked the link as was taken to the main WordPress.com page and there it was: Click For Larger Image The feature was on the Red Pandas in the News story. So it does looks like this did bring quite a bit of traffic to the Blog, but that could also be related to…
A quick reminder as part of the blog re-design on March 10th, the Upcoming Firefox & Thunderbird Releases are no longer listed in the side bar. They are now on their own dedicated page under the Upcoming link in the header (just below the logo).
