ChromEdit Plus

One of my favorite extensions from back in the Firefox 1.0.* build days was ChromEdit. Unfortunately, when Firefox 1.5 came out that extension was broken and the developer never made a newer version. I am not sure but I think I had tried to force it to work with Nightly Tester Tools without luck. Someone had come out with a newer version for Firefox 1.5 builds (and this may be the newer version). Today I came across ChromEdit Plus which has the same features as the original ChromEdit and some others: Edit userChrome.css, userContent.css & user.js files Open Profile Folder,…

ONE Lifetime Transfer with Windows Vista

About four years ago this month my hard drive crashed. At that time I was running Windows 98 and decided since I was going to have to start from scratch anyway why not get Windows XP. After I brought the computer back home from the shop, I discovered the current system hardware could not handle Windows XP. So I ended up returning to the shop and getting a whole new motherboard, AMD processor, Video Card and a lot more RAM to go along with the new hard drive that they had installed (with Windows XP) a couple days earlier. Got…

IE7: October 18th?

From CyberNet News: “According to one of Microsoft’s bloggers the release date for Internet Explorer 7 appears to be October 18th.For those of you grabbing for your calendar I’ll let you know that it is next Wednesday…a day after Mozilla plans on shipping Firefox 2 RC3.” Again, this for those who go to Microsoft’s website, download and install IE7 themselves. Installation via automatic update starts in two weeks on November 1st. Don’t want IE7 automatically installed on your machine? Cain’t say I blame y’all, luckily there is an easy way to Disable the IE7 Automatic Install. Important: If you are…

Firefox 2.0 RC3 Status

With the code freeze for Firefox 2.0 RC3 now in effect, I did some checking on the Mozilla Developer’s Calendar and noticed an estimated ‘ship’ date for RC3, Tuesday, October 17th. Also on this same date is this interesting item: Fx2 – Launch Dependencies Due! Still no official date listed on the calendar for the big Firefox 2 release.  I am guessing though it is still set for October 24th.  I base this loosely on the fact there are no more Bon Echo Status meetings after this date. BTW,  in case you have been following the calendar and are wondering,…

CoLT

One my favorite (and most used) extensions is CoLT (Copy Link Text). It a simple extension but such a time saver. It adds a couple items to your context (right-click) menu, Copy Link Text and Copy Link Text & Location As. The first option copies copies a hyperlink’s associated text to the clipboard. The second option copies copies both the hyperlink’s text and URL to the clipboard in the format you choose: HTML Link, Plain Text or one of three custom styles (defaults are BBCode, Fuse Talk and Wikipedia). This is very useful for blogging as I can simply right…

IE7 Coming This Week?

Earlier this week in my Which will come first? entry, I mentioned there were rumors IE7 would be coming out sometime this month.  Today, IEBlog has announced one last Expert Zone Chat this coming Thursday (10/12) prior to the release of IE7.  Now, this is hinting IE7 could be coming out as early as Friday. Again I should stress if there is a release this week it is only going to be for on demand installs. This means users will have to download and install the application themselves, in lieu of it being pushed through as a Windows Critical Update. …

There are still several bugs which are being worked out for this RC. There will not be any more theme changes as the Firefox 2.0 theme is done now. From The Official Win32 20061010 [Branch] Build Page… Mike Schroepfer wrote: Firefox 2 RC3 There are a handful of security and stability bugs we’d like to see get in before the final FF2 release. Thus we’ll be doing a third release candidate. As with…

YouTube SOLD! to Google

Okay, so I guess it wasn’t a rumor after all…It has been officially announced YouTube has been acquired by Google for the low price of $1.65 billion. Now, according to the press release, everything is going to stay the same. They will as remain two independent services and no one is going to be out of a job. From a marketing stand point, it is good Google as opted to keep the YouTube name and site as is. More folks are familiar with the YouTube experience and community then they would be of that with Google Videos. However, based by…

Firefox Memory Issues A Thing of The Past?

A brief discussion regarding Firefox memory issues came about on CyberNet News in regards to the Internet Explorer 7 Release About The Same As Firefox 2 article.  One of the comments left by ‘Dave’: “In my opinion, we could see quite a few people move from Firefox to IE7. In the pre Firefox 1.5 days, there was this huge Firefox movement. But during the 1.5 builds, I’ve seen tons of people grow tired of the memory leaks and other bugs associated with Firefox such as the copy/paste bug.” In the month or so now that I been using Firefox 2…

Which will come first?

The Internet Explorer blog recently announced, IE7 will be released sometime this month. Mozilla still plans on releasing Firefox 2.0 on October 24th. A minor detail though, while IE7 will be ‘released’ later this month those who are subscribe to the Windows Updates likely won’t see an update offer until sometime in November. The October release will be for people who download and install the application directly from Microsoft’s website. Firefox 2.0, should be accessible via automatic update shortly after its release. See CyberNet News >> Internet Explorer 7 Release About The Same As Firefox 2 for more details Blogged…
