Progress on Win64-Bit Firefox

Some progress to report on the future of Win64-Bit Firefox as reported on CNET News Deep Tech. Release engineer Armen Zambrano Gasparnian, who took early steps for 64-bit Firefox support last year, is on the case again. “We now have a small set of Windows 2008 64-bit slaves ready to be put in our production systems that can generate the 64-bit version of Mozilla Firefox,” he said in a blog post this week. He’s been filing bug reports as a result. Even better news is Adobe Labs has a Beta Release of Flash Player 11, which now supports Win64-Bit. However,…

Update: Inserting Links on to Images Issue Thunderbird 5

I was able to get a hold of an unofficial Beta Release for Thunderbird 6 earlier today. I had no issues pasting via right-click into the link field on the link tab when inserting an image. So it appears this was a glitch within Thunderbird 5.0 only. As a reminder Thunderbird 6.0 will be released on August 16th.

Inserting Links on to Images Issue Thunderbird 5

I was alerted over in my Email Mafia Forum, that in Thunderbird 5.0 when you are adding an image it will not allow you to paste a link in the link filed on the link tab. After some testing I did confirm that you can not paste via right-click. However, you can click in to the field and do CTRL+V or SHIFT+INSERT to paste. What is really odd about this though, is the functionality works fine in Thunderbird 3.1.11 as well as Thunderbird 7.0a2 (Earlybird) and 8.0a1 (Daily). Unfortunately, since there are currently no builds out for Thunderbird 6 Beta,…

Thunderbird 6 Beta NOT Available

We incorrectly stated in the Thunderbird Merges Completed post that Thunderbird 6.0 Beta (6.0b1) was available. Currently there are no Beta builds (with the exception of Tinderbox Builds) for Thunderbird 6.0. Those who had been on the Beta channel with Thunderbird 5.0 were updated to the release version of Thunderbird 5.0. However, I am uncertain if and when the Beta builds for Thunderbird 6.0 are released if an update to Thunderbird 6.0 Beta will be presented. Should have more information in the next few days.

Cookies: The silent snoop on your PC

This is two paragraphs of a long article. He mentions flash cookies which you can get rid of. Last month, the British advertising giant WPP boasted that it had just created the world’s largest database of individuals’ online behaviour: profiles of 500 million people, covering, it says, almost 100 per cent of the people online in the countries in which it operates, including the UK, the US, Australia and eight others. The firm said it was pooling data from many of the world’s major websites and networks of online advertisers and adding it to information purchased from traditional market-research firms…

BootMed

I’m downloading this later. Certainly looks like a useful tool.I retrieved some files from a partition I messed up recently using BrowserLinux and that was as simple as moving them from one folder to another but this is much more.I have some family and friends who do not seem to understand the importance of regular maintenance on Windows and I think this will make the job simpler when I get the call. From a review: the idea of using Linux to help teach Windows users how to recover their files has invoked a few chuckles amongst the Linux community as well…

Firefox 3.6.19/5.0.1 Coming (Mac Only)

There are a couple issues related to Firefox 3.6 & 5.0 and Mac OSX 10.7 as described on the Mozilla Product’s Blog: There is a bug present in the upcoming release of OSX 10.7 that causes Firefox to crash when using downloadable fonts.  Downloadable fonts are used widely on the web, so users would have suffered severe crash problems.  We alerted Apple to the problem before the release of 10.7 but they did not fix the problem before 10.7 went to final release.  We’ve changed the font APIs that we’re using to newer versions which appear to fix the problem. …
