Finally, some good news regarding Windows 11 after what seems like a new issue or two every week stemming from the Windows 11 2022 Update (22H2). As mentioned prior Microsoft Corporation 417,00 +4,13 +1,00% plans on adding new features to Windows 11 when they are ready instead of tying said features to particular release. Coming ‘later this month’ (not sure if this will be on this month’s ‘Patch Tuesday’ which ironically is the 11th) will be the additional set of experiences for Windows 11 users such as the Tabbed File Explorer and improved taskbar. Note: The new features are only going…

Today’s new Microsoft Corporation 417,00 +4,13 +1,00% Windows 11 22H2 known issue affects enterprise admins and not home users. Admins are getting 0x800700b7 errors when trying to provision a device with the Windows 11 22H2 update already installed. Microsoft says the Windows 11 2022 Update is breaking provisioning, leaving Windows 11 enterprise endpoints partially configured and failing to finish installing. According to Microsoft, this known issue most likely affects provisioning packages (.PPKG files used to configure new endpoints on enterprise or school networks without imaging) during the initial setup phase. Microsoft’s current work-around is to provision the device before installing the…
Another day and another tech company getting a slap on the wrist punishment for illegal user tracking and other privacy violations. This time around it’s Google’s turn with the state of Arizona fining Google Inc. 170,49 -0,33 -0,19% a measly $85 million dollars. I say measly because Google/Alphabet’s revenue in Fiscal Year 2021 was $258 Billion or $64.5 Billion Quarterly or $21.5 Billion Monthly. $85 million works out to three one-hundredths of a percent (.03%) of their annual revenue. Recall Google’s Android division failed to overturn an EU anti-trust ruling and ended up with a reduced fine of around $4…

Great news for EU consumers, bad news for some mobile device makers (looking at you Apple). The EU has announced new requirements effected by the end of 2024 for mobile devices. The European Parliament has voted to make USB-C the common charging standard in the EU. All mobile devices with up to 100W power delivery (including phones, tablets and earbuds) sold in the region will have to come with a USB-C charging port by the end of 2024. Laptops will need to make the switch by spring 2026. Products that come to market before these deadlines won’t be affected. It’s no secret that the…
I only watch YouTube on my main PC and laptop. Neither of which are 4K and I don’t own a 4K TV. However, many people like to watch YouTube in 4K (especially on their mobile devices) and have been doing so for free. That is likely changing… You might soon need YouTube Premium for more than ditching ads, background playback and trying new features. As MacRumors notes, users on Reddit and Twitter have noticed that YouTube is asking some viewers to upgrade to Premium to watch videos in 4K resolution. It’s not clear which countries, devices or videos are affected, but this won’t be thrilling if you…
Today is Sunday, October 2nd: time for the weekly roundup of the good, the bad and the ugly tech news of the week! This week’s picks are centered around user privacy. The Good Some browsers (looking at you Chrome) are going out of their way NOT to help protect their user’s privacy. It is a refreshing change to hear Brave, a privacy based browser built off of Chromium will automatically block cookie consent banners/pop-ups in future releases. One of the unfortunate side effects of the EU’s GDPR is those annoying ‘this site uses cookies, please accept them (so our advertisers…
Microsoft Corporation 417,00 +4,13 +1,00% Microsoft Windows XP was released in August 2001. It was a major change for PC users as it was built under the Windows NT kernel and felt more like an operating system than an overlay. This was the first version of Windows users could automatically boot into without the need to start Windows from the DOS command line (or via the AUTOEXEC.BAT file) when the PC finished booting. It offered a nice clean interface too, which was more than could be said for Windows 10 ‘Metro’ mode. If you really don’t like the look and…
The Brave Browser, a privacy focused browser based off of the Chromium Browser will start blocking those pesky Cookie Consent Banners in an upcoming future release. Those annoying pop-up banners (and yes our sites have them too) are an unfortunate but required side effect of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) regulations. Not only are these banners annoying but they could be invading your privacy too. In some cases, however, these banners can serve as trackers themselves, as they engage in a privacy-breaching data exchange before the user even has a chance to opt out. Brave will now proactively detect…
