Twitter: None of our Policies Have Changed

Chief Twit is sounding more like a politician everyday. First he is claiming Apple is going to remove Twitter from the App Store and won’t tell him why. Now he can not understand why more and more advertisers are leaving Twitter. Twitter is right now facing a massive decline in ad revenue as major advertisers have halted spending amid concerns over policy changes instituted by Musk. In the blog post, though, Twitter says that “brand safety is only possible when human safety is the top priority” and that “none of our policies have changed.” Bullshit! Just Monday it was discovered Twitter secretly…

Twitter No Longer Enforcing COVID Misinformation Policy

Is this part of Musk’s “free speech” movement or simply a side-effect of gutting nearly 2/3 of Twitter’s workforce within his first month of taking ownership? Regardless, this is going to advance Twitter’s doomsday clock by another couple minutes. Twitter’s long-running effort to fight COVID-19 misinformation is at an end, at least for now. As Twitter users and CNN noticed, the social media firm has quietly updated its transparency site to reveal that it stopped enforcing its COVID misinformation policy on November 23rd. It’s not clear if the company will restore any accounts banned for sharing misinformation as part of Elon Musk’s planned amnesty, but this indicates…

Happy 50th Birthday Pong!

On November 29, 1972 Atari released the (table tennis) video game Pong. Exactly 50 years ago today, Atari released Pong. It wasn’t the first video game ever created, nor the original take on virtual table tennis – a fact that would eventually lead to two decades of lawsuits. But in Pong, the early video game industry was born. Released in 1972, Atari sold more than 8,000 Pong arcade cabinets. A few years later, the home version of Pong would become an instant success, with Sears selling about 150,000 units of the console you needed to play the game. Those are modest sales numbers by 2022 standards, but the success…

Epson to exit the Laser Printer Business in 2026

Epson has long been associated with printers, though when I think Laser Printers; HP, Brothers and Lexmark come to mind not Epson. Growing up we had an Epson printer in the house. Except they were not laser or even inkjet, rather Dot Matrix (or impact) printer the MX-80. Later on we ended up getting an Oki Data printer. My father did eventually get a laser printer. This was in later 80’s and I remember you could always tell when he was printing as the all lights in our 1960’s California house would start flickering. I am surprised running the printer…

Cyber Monday Twitter Update

Today is Cyber Monday. If you need a break from searching for those last minute deals…here’s some Twitter news from the past few days: Elon Musk is gloating “Twitter new user signups at an ‘all-time high’”. A month after completing his takeover of Twitter, Elon Musk says new user signups are at an “all-time high.” On Saturday evening, the billionaire shared a slide deck that details the current state of Twitter and his vision for the platform. As of November 16th, Twitter was adding more than 2 million new users per day over the last seven days, according to one of the graphs Musk…

Fake Android File Manager Apps Removed from Google Play

Once again scammers are getting creative in findings way to get their fake and malicious apps on Google Play. Unsuspecting users install said apps with false sense of security since the apps is offered on Google Play it must be safe (which in most case is true). In the past, most of these malicious apps were more of an annoyance serving adware and performing (ad) click fraud. However, these new fake Android ‘File Manager’ apps are a lot more serious and dangerous. These apps are “clean” when they are uploaded to Google Play, but once install will later ‘phone home’…

Twitter is Hiring!

Yep, you’ve read that right Twitter has announced they are hiring for sales (which came the same day they laid off employees from same department) and engineering. This announcement also backs my theory the reason the new Twitter Blue re-release is on hold is not (at least entirely) to ensure the verification issues have been resolved, but rather Twitter doe not have the needed staff to accomplish this (and all the new features Musk wants to add). Twitter won’t be firing and laying off more people, Elon Musk reportedly told the staff members who remained after asking employees to commit to…

New Twitter Blue on Hold

Elon Musk had planned on relaunching the new Twitter Blue on November 29th, however now it appears it is going to be a while still. Holding off relaunch of Blue Verified until there is high confidence of stopping impersonation. Will probably use different color check for organizations than individuals. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) November 22, 2022 Seems odd given they just had added a 90-day waiting period for new Twitter accounts to be able to subscribe to Twitter Blue. I really wondering if it is more because he doesn’t have the staff left anymore (and does not want to admit…

Facebook Removing Some Profile Fields

I really haven’t used Facebook, Inc. 196,64 +0,99 +0,51% for personal use (other than for marketing of the blogs) for many, many years. There was a few months in late 2019 early 2020 I did resume using Facebook to keep family, friends (and my former co-workers) informed about a close family member’s battle with terminal illness. Shortly after their passing, I once again distanced myself from Facebook. I had used Facebook in the past to connect to friends I left behind in 1993 when I relocated to Arizona as well as co-workers from former jobs and even people from the…
