I’ve been keeping an eye out on Go Firefox! as well as mozillaZine. There seems to be a couple issues with some folks with the addons manager and secure websites. The biggest problem folks seem to be having is related to their Firewalls blocking Firefox 1.5.0.7. For firewall related issues check out: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firewalls For an easy to configure firewall I would suggest Sygate Personal Firewall. It is free and anytime an application tries to access the Internet or has changed since you last ran it, Sygate popups a box describing the issue and asking if you wish to allow this…
To put it mildly the firewall that comes with Windows XP sucks! It is a pain in the rear to try and configure as you have to create entries for each port the programs are going to access. I have heard not so great things about Zone Alarm. Thanks to a tip from a member over at Go Firefox!, I looked into and have been using Sygate Personal Firewall. What I love about Sygate is the simple interface and configuration. If an application is trying to connect to the Internet, Sygate will popup and and inform you that this application…
Along with Firefox 1.5.0.7, Thunderbird 1.5.0.7 has been released as well. The release notes for Thunderbird are a bit brief: Improvements to product stability. Several security fixes. The Mozilla and OSU OpenSource Labs FTP Servers appear to be overload at this time but you should be able to download Thunderbird 1.5.0.7 directly from the product page. Most users should be able to upgrade Thunderbird (if it hasn’t told you to do so already) as well as Firefox by going to the Help menu and selecting ‘Check For Updates…’

By default Firefox is setup to allow no more than two active downloads at a time. Okay this in fine and actually good for folks on dial-up but what about us broadband users? Well, you could install some third-party download manager software or may be an extension. But wait, there is a much easier way! This simple tweak is from CyberNet News and can be done in a matter of seconds and works on Firefox 1.5.0.X, 2.0b2 and the 2.0b2 nightly builds. Again, this is NOT recommended for dial-up users: In a new tab type ‘about:config’ in the address bar…
Once again CyberNet News has the info before Mozilla has even updated mozillaZine. Even better Ryan has created a neat little download widget for Firefox 1.5.0.7. Simply select your language and then click the button for your OS. Cain’t get much easier than that!

All looks good for Firefox and Thunderbird 1.5.0.7 to be released on Thursday, September 14th. Also the next milestone for Firefox 2.0 will be Release Candidate 1 scheduled for next Tuesday the 19th. Also, on September 19th, Firefox 2.0 RC1 should, be released. For more info about these releases see Firefox 2 RC1 And Firefox 1.5.0.7 Release Dates…
Thanks to Ryan at CyberNet Tech News for this extension tip! Download Statusbar adds a customizable download status bar just above the main status bar. Now, if you are using the PDF Download extension along with FoxIt, this is a must. The example below shows two PDF documents downloaded (via the PDF Download Extension) in order to be viewed in FoxIt. Click For Larger Image Now when I am done viewing the documents, I don’t need them to still be sitting on my hard drive. This is where the Download Statusbar extension is a real time saver, all I have…
Firefox has around 1800 extensions just on Mozilla Add-ons and countless others from developers who did not want to be listed on Mozilla Add-ons. Today on CyberNet News, a look at some of the funnier Firefox extensions. Now, I have to admit while some of these are quite creative and humors a couple (such as the Random Theme Switcher) if in the hands of the wrong people could provide some really interesting results in an office environment. See the article: The Funniest Firefox Extensions for full description and download link (Note: some of these are older and may not work…
