Using the ProfileManager in Thunderbird

A while ago I wrote about the ProfileManager application created by J. Griffion. This application provided a new UI to managing profiles in Firefox, but it can also do so in Thunderbird. The trick is it needs to be setup as a separate application/short-cut and passing Thunderbird as an argument.  On my Windows 7 system I have the following short-cuts:

  • “C:\Program Files (x86)\profilemanager\profilemanager.exe” – This launches the ProfileManager  for Firefox which is default.
  • “C:\Program Files (x86)\profilemanager\profilemanager.exe” thunderbird – This launches the ProfileManager for Thunderbird

So now I am able to run multiple versions of Thunderbird at once on different profiles. This is handy as I needed separate profiles for each build to check on issues I’ve been having with the Thunderbird account setup tool in Thunderbird 5 and 7. More on this later this week, still awaiting some feedback about this particular issue.
