April 2007, included some big announcements from and involving Google. Google TiSP – Need an internet connection but fed up with the prices charged by the cable and telephone companies? Perhaps you are stuck paying for a satellite service with speeds only slightly faster than dial-up at three times the price. If you have a toilet that is connected to a sewer system, Google’s free TiSP Broadband internet service is for you. GMail Paper (beta) – With all the news going around about people’s GMail suddenly vanishing or discovering their accounts have been locked because they violated some obscure part…

March 2007, saw big changes for The Blog as well as Addons.Mozilla.Org (AMO) plus some new (and delayed) releases. After dealing with a broken theme only in Firefox (Oh ,the humanity!) for a couple days I ended up doing a major overhaul on the blog. I reverted back to a 2-column theme and created a new custom designed header. I also took the same design and used it to re-skin the blog’s FeedBurner headline animator. Also did some housekeeping with the categories. Nearly nine months later, there hasn’t been any problems with the theme thus far. Well one minor problem…

February 2007 sure had a lot happening for such a short month. Add-ons and Google were some of the bigger topic during the month of February. Spread Firefox introduced their Add-ons Promotion Contest. I added four new reviews of my favorite add-ons for the promotion: Review: Download Statusbar – a much nicer alternative to the stock Downloads Window Review: FoxyTunes – this marvelous extension allows you to control your favorite media player right from Firefox. Later versions would add even more functionality Review: Splash – a more detailed version of my write-up from January Review: CoLT – that one extension…
January 2007, started with lots of tips and tweaks for Firefox: Security Component Error – A corrupted file in your Fx profile is the likely culprit of this fatal sounding Firefox error: “Could not initialize the browser’s security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your browser’s profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the browser and fix the problem. If you continue to use this browser session, you might see incorrect browser behavior when accessing…

Well this is a new record, two Firefox releases on the same branch in the same week. Today Mozilla pushed out Fx 2.0.0.11 to fix (for some) a major regression in the Fx 2.0.0.10 release from earlier this week. As is normal practice, most users will get an update notfication within the next 24-48 hours. Alternatively, users can get the new version by going to the Help Menu and selecting Check For Updates… or via getfirefox.com. For more information see the Fx 2.0.0.11 release notes.
Now wait a minute, according to my Releases page, Fx 2.0.0.10 just came out on Monday, November 26th. Two Firefox releases on the same branch in the same week? It could happen. Seems to be a serious regression in the recently release version 2.0.0.10 build earlier this week. From Mozilla Links: A bug in just released Firefox 2.0.0.10 affecting an important <canvas> HTML element interface (.drawImage) has prompted Mozilla developers to rush a new update that fixes this bug that affects several web sites and extensions (FoxSaver, Fotofox) that rely on it to deliver the intended experience to their users….
As I hinted earlier, I am in the process of putting together another Firefox Year in Review as well as The Blog Year in Review. Just like last year, The Firefox Year In Review will be released on Christmas (December 25th) Day. However, last year I posted the Blog Year in Review over a couple days. This year I will be publishing these articles throughout the month of December. The first post should be out sometime this weekend and the final post on New Years Day. Each Blog Year in Review post will have a link (where applicable) to the…
