Been running into some trouble today trying to get the latest Bon Echo nightly build. Currently I am running Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.5pre) Gecko/20070615 BonEcho/2.0.0.5pre ID:2007061503. I get the update notfication screen: But when I click ‘Download & Install Now >>’ this is what happens: I checked over at Firefox Builds to see if this is a common issue. Now, there was an issue where the June 16th builds were not updating as well. However I did not see anything about this issue. So I’ve posted over there and see what happens.

Note: Most images can be viewed full size by clicking the image. I decided to download and take Safari for a ‘test drive’ today. Sadly, I was not that impressed with the browser. It does have a few nice features but they do not outweigh all the problems and general annoyances. So there are some features Firefox does not have. Safari displays a ‘progress/load bar’ in the address bar (see last image for example). Also, Safari will show a blue border around the active text box, including the address bar or search box. One other nice feature…
Just checking over at getthunderbird.com and noticed version 2.0.0.4 has been released. See the release notes from more info on this security update. Most users should automatically be offered an upgrade (if updates are active) in the next couple days. Alternatively, users can get the new version via Help menu >> Check For Updates.

Since it seems to be on a ‘weird‘ theme tonight I thought I would post this. The other night I had this comment from AI in regards to the Firefox 2.0: Close Tab Buttons post: i did this tweak before and could see all the closebuttons even when tabs weren’t in focus. but they suddenly disappeared today . I checked about:config and the value is set to 1 by default. Is it possible to get these buttons to show without rollover action? At first I thought may be it was a theme/extension conflict. So I changed the browser.tabs.closeButtons entry in…
Okay now this is very weird (almost unnatural), Apple has released (Beta) Safari 3.0 for Windows. This use to be a Mac only browser, but now it seems Apple has wanted to get in on the “PC Browser War”. For those of you keeping track we have IE 7, Opera 9.5, Netscape Communicator 9, and Firefox 3 in addition to Safari all trying to compete to be your web browser. Percy at Mozilla Links has done a brief but ‘weird’ review of Safari. Here were his observations: It has beautiful fonts, and as it has been already said, they must…
As part of Mozilla’s on-going commitment to provide you with a safe browsing experience, meet Larry, the passport dude. He is going to part of the forthcoming Firefox 3 and a new way to verify a site’s identity (and if it is “safe”). Many people (including the humble Guru here) are misled into thinking that just because a site is identified as ‘secure’ (has the little padlock in the status or address bar) that it is also ‘safe’ As Meandering Wildly explains, the padlock only means the site has an SSL certificate, which in of itself does not make the…

Found this interesting item on Todd Bishop’s Blog. It seems the Desktop Search program which comes with Vista does not play well with Google’s own Desktop Search. Especially when the two are running simultaneously . This is causing the user’s system to slow to a crawl. Further unlike Vista’s Start-Up Sound this search feature can not be disabled. Here’s the interesting thing though, Google launched the complaint late last year but Microsoft Lawyer’s would not reveal the source of the complaint. Even in March of this year, “Plaintiffs reported that they had just received a middleware-related complaint.” But again it…
It has been a while since I have been into Ubuntu. I think the last time I was on was around Memorial Day when the Kernel update caused problems with Fx 2.0.0.3. Today I went back in and updated the Kernel again and went to Fx 2.0.0.4. Fx is running smoothly now. So my next issue to tackle was the on again/off again sound. Looking through some troubleshooting sites for Ubuntu Sound issues I came across the site: Debugging Sound Problems. Keep in mind my system came with a built-in sound chip on the motherboard but I had added my…
