Blog Year in Review: October 2007

October 2007 was a very interesting, almost depressing (in terms of Thunderbird news) and chaotic month. After nearly 5-years The Guru’s Windows XP system quits unexpectedly. A few hours later The Guru was slowly up and running again on a new Windows Vista PC. September was big month for news from Mozilla: In the early part of September Firefox tallied up 400 Million Downloads Another big news item from Mozilla brought a collective sigh-of-relief from Thunderbird Users. A new and improved Firefox ‘First Run’ Page was launched in order to ‘increase user retention’. A major QuickTime Vulnerability was discovered in the current Firefox 2.0.0.6 version, prompting the release of Fx 2.0.0.7 in mid-September. Review: Locator

Ever since the issues with Yahoo!Maps and the Firefox nightly builds, I’ve been using Google Maps. But there a few steps involved when wanting to look-up an address you find on a website. First you must highlight and copy the address, then open a new tab and go to Goggle Maps and then finally paste in the address you wish to look-up. Tip: Release Notes

Each time you install a new version of Firefox and restart the browser you are presented with that version’s Release Notes. Most folks end up not even reading the notes or may be just skimming them and closing the tab. If you want to return to the notes later you could go to the Mozilla Firefox Release Notes site and then select the current version from the list.
