There are some extensions that I simply wonder how did I ever get along with out them? FoxyTunes is one of those extensions and by far the most used. Since I am always using WinAmp to listen to my music anytime I am using the computer (not just surfing the web), FoxyTunes makes things so much simpler. With FoxyTunes, you can control (right from the Firefox browser) virtually any music/media player including: WinAmp Real Player iTunes Windows Media Players Yahoo!Music Engine and many more (see the extension page for a complete listing) Once installed and configured, FoxyTunes adds all the…
About six months ago I download this extension just to try it out. I had a friend raving about it, so I decided to try it out myself just to see. Now I can’t imagine using Firefox without it. Instead of having the Firefox download manger pop-up in it’s own window or tab this adds a “download statusbar” directly above your status bar. During the download it will display a colored progress bar, the name of the file, amount download so far, estimated time and download speed. If you hover your mouse over the downloading file the tooltip will show…

The Mozilla Developers have decided to break up the Wednesday Firefox 3 (Gran Paradiso)/Gecko 1.9 (Minefield) status meetings into to two separate meetings. This began last Tuesday (02/13) with Fx 3 meetings mvoing to Tuesdays at 11:00 AM PST and Gecko 1.9 meetings staying at the Wednesdays 11:00 AM PST slot. For those familiar with the meeting schedule, you may recall the Tuesday time slot use to be for the Bon Echo (Fx 2) Status meetings. I will continue to post weekly updates on the Fx 3 meetings and (if there is) anything of interest from the Gecko meeting. Not…
I was looking at the list of reviews at the Firefox Add-Ons Contest Squidoo Lens and noticed several I had not heard of before. Of course, this is that the purpose of the contest is to get more exposure to the extensions. An interesting one I found is called Firefox Extension Backup Extension (FEBE). This extension is great for testers such as myself who run multiple profiles or the casual Firefox user who has experienced the pain and heartache of dealing with a fried profile. I’ve said before the most difficult part of creating a new profile is not just…
Due to the President’s Day Holiday there was not a Mozilla Weekly Update meeting today. Not sure if they are going to have it tomorrow since there is no agenda on the site for this week. While nothing has been announced officially, it looks like having the Fx 1.5.0.10/2.0.0.2 release this week was very doubtful. I was taking a look over on the Mozilla FTP server at the ‘candidates’ directories for both of the Fx 1.5.0.10 RC2 and Fx 2.0.0.2 RC4 builds were put out on Friday. After a quick look over at the Firefox:1.5.0.10-2.0.0.2 on the Mozilla Wiki, the…
[Part 1][Part 2][Part 3][Part 3.5][Part 4][Part 4.5] It has now been a week since the Add-Ons Manager Overhaul (AMO) was suppose to be live. The latest news from the Mozilla Webdev Blog is AMO Deployment This Week. The AMO both with the multiple locals as well as the amount of traffic has brought multiple challenges as well as set backs for the final launch: Scalability of our new site has been a unique challenge for us. We are trying to tackle localization for a large number of locales for both static and dynamic data, which is something not many sites…
Earlier this week Google announced they have opened their Gmail e-mail service to all. In the past you either had to know someone who could send you an invitation or more recently be able to receive a confirmation /activation registration code via a cell phone text message. This announcement spawned an interesting discussion on the CyberNet Forums, Gmail finally really open to everyone!!!!. It is noteworthy to point out that many people say Gmail has the best spam filter of most web based e-mail services, but now that it is open to all what is to stop spammers from creating…
I came across this amazing story earlier today on CyberNet. Aaron Stanton has this novel idea (which he has not disclosed to us the reader, yet) which he is sure Google is going to love. Since 2003 he has thought about flying out to Mountain View, California to the Googleplex to present the idea. He has come close many times, but has always backed out at the last second. Finally this past Sunday, February 11th he made the trip to California. He brought along his video camera, laptop and the presentation for his idea in multiple formats (Mac, Windows, and…
