Update: Mozilla Japan’s New Mascot

Last month I wrote about the contest to name Mozilla Japan’s new mascot (as seen on the left). The contest has ended and the official name is Foxkeh. I still have to wonder what the other mascot entries were like if Mozilla Japan choose this one out of some 600. Yes it is a “Fire Fox” but still. I have collected some various comments about Foxkeh: ceebs’n’elvis on Team Vox: “Looks like that fox was eating some extra spicy hot wings…and is paying for it this morning!” SonOfPearl on Mozilla Links: “I think a slight re-design is needed to make…

The Future of Google’s Homepage

With the recent $1.65 Billion acquisition of YouTube by Google people have wondered how Google is going to ‘promote’ YouTube. Ryan at CyberNet News happened to stumble upon this great YouTube video, GoolgeTube: [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UItu93WspwY]

New Category: Mozilla Firefox Tips

I have posted many good Firefox tips, however these tips have been a bit buried and difficult to locate amongst the 150+ (wow!) posts. To make locating these tips much easier, I have added Mozilla Firefox Tips to the categories list.

Firefox 2.0 RC3 RELEASED!

Yep, you read that right the final milestone (before the main release) for Firefox 2 has arrived! I am a little surprised this came out today as the Developers Calendar had said on Tuesday. But I had a feeling it would today just based on the prior release patterns. You can download via the Mozilla FTP or go over to CyberNet News and use Ryan’s ‘download widget’ to ensure you get the right version. While you are there check out the link for the Firefox Launch Party to see if there is going to be one in your area (or…

Firefox 2.0 RC3 Status + IE7 Updates

Last week I reported in my IE7: October 18th? entry via CyberNet News, one Microsoft Blogger had said IE7 was to come out on October 18th. Well, thanks to an alert reader at Go Firefox!, I have learned, the blogger has removed all references to the October 18th release date. However, I did notice this particular item still remained in the article: “Microsoft recommends that enterprises are prepared for automatic delivery by November 1st“ So it sounds like the delivery via automatic updates is still on for the first part of November. But what about releasing to the Microsoft website…

Firefox 2.0 Feature Preview: Search Engine Alert

Not sure when this feature was added but once in a while I noticed while I was on a certain site the Goggle logo on my search bar would glow blue (see below). After some reading on mozillaZine Firefox Builds forum I found about that this interesting feature in the thread: Blue glow on Google dropdown “The glow is there to indicate that the page you’re visiting has it’s own search engine. If you click on the search engine dropdown you’ll notice the “Add search engine…” dialog for you current page.” While I was on Wikipedia, I noticed the Google…

ChromEdit Plus

One of my favorite extensions from back in the Firefox 1.0.* build days was ChromEdit. Unfortunately, when Firefox 1.5 came out that extension was broken and the developer never made a newer version. I am not sure but I think I had tried to force it to work with Nightly Tester Tools without luck. Someone had come out with a newer version for Firefox 1.5 builds (and this may be the newer version). Today I came across ChromEdit Plus which has the same features as the original ChromEdit and some others: Edit userChrome.css, userContent.css & user.js files Open Profile Folder,…

Nightly Tester Tools in Thunderbird 2

In my Nightly Tester Tools entry I talked about using this extension with Firefox. The newest version 1.2 works with Firefox 2.0b1-3.0a1 plus Thunderbird 2.0pb1 (pre-beta)-3.0a1 and SeaMonkey (former Mozilla Suite browser) 1.5a. The installation for Thunderbird is a little more complicated since it doesn’t do the automatic XPI install like Firefox: Go to the Nightly Tester Tools site On the bottom right of the page RIGHT-CLICK on the Install Latest Version button Select from the context menu ‘Save Link As…’ Keep the default file name (nightly-1.2.xpi), but save it to the desktop Minimize Firefox Toggle to Thunderbird From the…

Removing ‘Go’ Button

Firefox 3 Users: This tweak does not work with Firefox 3 as the Go Button has been removed now. With the new default theme for Firefox 2 there is not a ‘simple’ way to remove the ‘Go’ Button from the navigation toolbar. I never used the go button since I simply press enter after I type in address. This will make your address box a little bigger as well. There a couple ways you can remove the Go Button either via about:config or modifying your userChrome.css file. about:config method Open a new tab and type about:config in the address bar…
