Some big news from today’s meeting: Fx 1.5.0.12/2.0.0.4 Code Freeze is set for this Friday (04/20) but currently their are 60 open blocker bugs on the branch. The last release date I had saw was sometime in Mid-May. So technically, support for the 1.5.0.X builds will not end on April 24th. Major Update has been pushed back until after this next build release. Actually this makes a lot of sense, since Fx 1.5.0.12 is going to be the last build on the 1.5.0.X branch. If you been wanting to try out Thunderbird 2 but been waiting for all the major bugs to be squashed, that time has come. TBird 2.0 Release Candidate (RC) 1 was released yesterday. This is very close to the final product, there may be a few small lingering bugs but nothing major. The meeting notes seem to be getting shorter by the week. But there were a couple of items of interest from today’s meeting: (Bug) Nominations for Fx/TB 1.5.0.12 & Fx 2.0.0.4 were due last Friday Major Update has some problems with left over files and search plugins after the update TBird 2.0 RC1 is now out. Not really sure when this feature became live, but I just recently discovered the New Mail Notifier (slider) in TB 2.0 is now clickable. I discovered this by accident the other night when I got an e-mail while I was in Fx. Since I have Outhouse (Outlook) at work, out of habit I clicked on the slider when a message came in I wanted to view right away. Some interesting developments in today’s Weekly Update meeting. As most folks know, Fx 1.5.0.11 and 2.0.0.3 were released last week on Tuesday, March 20th. Now, the next phase is going to be Fx/TB 1.5.0.12 and Fx 2.0.0.4: Release scheduled to be released tentatively around May 15 (tue), taking into consideration All-Hands, Major Updates release, and Tbird 2 release, and a beta release. Shooting for a 4/20 code freeze. Now, that tentative release date is very interesting…recall Mozilla had announced (and is still “warning” users) that Fx 1.5 will only be maintained with security and stability updates until April 24, 2007….

Big news from today’s Weekly Update meeting: Fx 1.5.0.11 & 2.0.0.3 – A release candidate (RC) was pushed out to users who were on the ‘Beta’ update channel last week. These users had downloaded a ‘Beta’ version of Firefox 2 in the past. The reports from these users have been good so far. So, if all goes as planned, Fx 1.5.0.11 & 2.0.0.3 will be released tomorrow afternoon/evening (around 4:00 PM Pacific/7:00 PM Eastern). I would have thought there was going to be some news about the upcoming Fx/TB 1.5.0.11 & Fx 2.0.0.3 builds in today’s update meeting. Strange though there is not, there is section in the agenda for this topic, but nothing there. I’ll check tomorrow and see if they have updated the notes. Meanwhile, TB 2.0 code freeze has gone as planned with another “RC” community test day planned for this Friday. The latest version of the Thunderbird 1.5 builds was released yesterday (March 1st). This update contains stability improvements and a couple of security fixes (one fix which is labeled as critical). Users who have not been presented with an upgrade offer should be able to upgrade via the Help Menu and selecting Check For Updates… If you can not or are getting an error when trying to upgrade, you can get the new version here.
