I have been running the nightly builds of Bon Echo now for a couple weeks. Last night I was presented with an interesting or as it called itself, ‘major test upgrade’ to Bon Echo 2.0 mt1. I get a dialog box explaining this in an experiment and my participation is voluntary and nothing should go wrong (famous last words) with this update, but if there are problems to use Bugzilla. So I agree to continue then I presented with this:
SAMPLE END-USER SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT
This isn’t a real END-USER SOFTWARE LICENSE, it is just here for testing purposes.
You are not agreeing to anything if you select “I accept the terms of the License Agreement” for this sample EULA.
Of course I have the two options, to either ‘accept the terms’ or ‘Not to accept the terms’. Clicking ‘Not accept the terms’ causes you not to continue with update. I clicked the ‘accept’ it does the update as a normal nightly build.
So What Did I Just Install?
Judging by the build ID: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20060919 BonEcho/2.0 ID:2006091905, this appears to be a normal nightly release. But some (such as Ryan at CyberNet) are considering it a Release Candidate for the upcoming (see below) Firefox 2 RC. Whatever it is does not really concern me as everything is STILL working as it should! I did not need to re-activate all my extensions like I had to do over the weekend when one of the nightly builds disabled all the extensions I had forced to work prior. Was able to get some more info on this build by looking around on mozillaZine and came across a link about the 2mt1 release.
Release Schedule Changes Again…
I thought this may have had something to do with the RC1 being scheduled for release last night but turns out per the Mozilla Developers Calendar, the RC1 for Firefox 2.0 has been pushed back a week to September 26th. Still no dates listed for the RC2/RC3 and for that matter the final release of Firefox 2. Since I have not heard otherwise I am guessing Mozilla is still trying to aim for October 24th, especially since the calendar does not show any more of the weekly ‘Bon Echo Status’ meetings after the 24th of October. Guess will have to see what happens once RC1 is put out.
