As of late last night, the Mozilla Developers Calendar for Firefox 2.0, still shows RC1 to be shipped/released tomorrow (Sept 26th). No other dates have been added for future release candidates or the final build. But, the last ‘Bon Echo Status Meeting’ is still scheduled for October 24th, which is still the tentative final release date of Firefox 2.0. However at this point in Firefox 2.0’s development, everything now hangs on what happens once RC1 comes out. Remember, Release Candidates (RC) are essentially the finished product feature wise, but may still have some minor bugs that need to be fixed….

One of the new features that is still on the Thunderbird 2.0 Road Map is ‘Tabbed Messages’. The way this feature was suppose to work was allow you to open/view multiple messages in the preview pane switching between tabs. Presently, each message when opened, opens in its own window. Take a look at this screen-shot from bugzilla bug 297379 to get an idea of how this would work. There is another screen-shot showing an interesting idea on how to use tabs on the compose screen. Unlike the first screen-shot, the second one is from Sylpheed-Claws, which is an open-source mail client…
For nearly 3 months I been using the ‘preview or beta’ version of Foxy Tunes 2.0, which was only available on the developer’s site. Thanks to a tip from CyberNet News (FoxyTunes 2.0 Released For Firefox Users), I am happy to announce the developers have released it to Firefox Add-Ons now. FoxyTunes 2.0 ‘Desktop Widget’ Not only do you get to control your media player right from Firefox, but now there are many new search features. Simply hover over the note button ( ) on your FoxyTunes toolbar to pop-up the ‘desktop widget’ and you select the search features from…
Last night I was notified the next ‘major test’ (mt) update was ready to download. This was the full 7 MB download, not just a small update so it took a little longer. But at least this update didn’t cause my incompatible extensions to become incompatible again. SAMPLE MAJOR UPDATE DETAILS You are seeing something different because we are testing the “major update” functionality of Software Update. Please continue with the update in order to help us test this feature. Accepting this major update should not cause any problems, but if you do experience any problems, please use bugzilla to…
The other day I was looking through my Add-Ons (extensions for those folks using Firefox 1.5.0.X) seeing what I was still using with Firefox 2. I came across the Slim Extension List, which does two things. First, being you can not resize the add-ons (extensions) window, this extension reduces the size of the extension entries so you can fit more in the window with less scrolling. Further it will arrange your extensions in alphabetical order, not the default order which is by when they were installed. But then I wondered wasn’t this ‘fixed’ with the redesign of the add-ons UI?…
Has this ever happened to you? You are typing along in a text-box and notice an error. But for whatever reason Firefox no longer has emphasis on the text-box and when you hit the backspace key you end up navigating backwards (much like Internet Exploiter). The Disable Backspace Navigation extension fixed this by disabling the backspace key from navigation. Some background on this issue/bug, it has been an on going issue that the folks at Bugzilla said could be fixed with a simple about:config entry change. I tried this ‘fix’ and it did not work so I installed the extension….
Melitta ME1MSB Smart Mill & Brew 10-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker Bit of a slow news day in the Mozilla world, so I was looking at Todd Bishop’s Microsoft Blog and came across this entry, Now brewing: A Microsoft-powered coffee maker. Oh this is scary, a coffee maker with Microsoft software technology! I could see it now, wake up in the morning, stumble into the kitchen and instead of your usual pot of freshly brewed coffee, the coffee maker display is flashing an error message. You frantically dig through all the drawers looking for the manual and hunt around for the troubleshooting…
While I was searching the Firefox Addons page for the Yahoo!Mail notifier extension, I came across this interesting and very convenient extension. One thing that has always bugged my about Yahoo!Mail is once you are in your Inbox (or any other folder) you have to click on the message to view it. With the AJAX Yahoo! Mail Extension, a small ‘plus sign’ is added next to each message in your Inbox (or other folder) which will allow you to preview the message without leaving the folder. As a bonus, you can also download attachments from your Yahoo!Mail with just one…
I have been running the nightly builds of Bon Echo now for a couple weeks. Last night I was presented with an interesting or as it called itself, ‘major test upgrade’ to Bon Echo 2.0 mt1. I get a dialog box explaining this in an experiment and my participation is voluntary and nothing should go wrong (famous last words) with this update, but if there are problems to use Bugzilla. So I agree to continue then I presented with this: SAMPLE END-USER SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT This isn’t a real END-USER SOFTWARE LICENSE, it is just here for testing purposes. You…
A couple week’s ago I mentioned in my entry, My Way Not Going my way, troubles with the My Way e-mail. Also I had stopped using My Way as my home page, going back to Yahoo. Today on CyberNet, Ryan Ashley reviews My Way thanks to a tip I had sent to them a while back. After using Yahoo the last couple weeks I decided I’d give My Way another chance. There were some things Yahoo just could not offer that were great with My Way. My TV Favorites, just select from the local listing you want as your favorites…
